National ABAA Book Fair Covid Guidelines and Information Sheet Checklist

The Oakland City Council passed an emergency ordinance to reduce the spread of COVID-19 that requires people to show proof of vaccination to enter many indoor facilities. The ordinance went into effect on February 1, 2022.

Valid forms of vaccination proof:
Vaccination Proof can be an original, copy or picture of your vaccination card from the CDC, a healthcare provider, or a government agency or a digital COVID-19 vaccine record issued by the State of California. Vaccination proof will be cross checked with a valid Photo ID (if over 18).

You may be exempt from these requirements if you are entitled to a reasonable accommodation for a medical condition. To qualify, you will need to show verification of medical exemption, proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test*, and photo identification.

* Proof of a recent Negative COVID-19 Test in the form of a printed document, email or text message displayed on a phone, from a test provider or laboratory that shows negative results from a test conducted within 48 hours before entry. The printed document, email, or text message must include the person’s name, type of test performed, date of the test, and negative test result.


California International Antiquarian Book Fair Attendance Terms & Conditions

To provide the safest and most positive experience possible the California International Antiquarian Book Fair organizers are strictly following the most current Covid-19 capacity rules and guidelines from the State of California, Alameda County, and the CDC. Show management will continue to monitor these recommendations and reserves the right to modify the Attendance Procedures and Guidelines for the fair accordingly.

The Marriott Oakland City Center features MERV 13 Filters for all the public areas and MERV 8 in the guest rooms. Exhibit Hall ceiling is 22’ high, Seminar and Exhibitor Hospitality Lounge ceilings are 14’ high. The humidity is set automatically through programming of our Building Management System. Enhanced cleaning protocols will be in place and hand sanitizing stations will be strategically placed around the fair for the safety of guests and exhibitors. Social distancing will be enhanced by adding wider rows and more open space on the fair floor. We will stay informed of changes in rules and implement the latest best practices.

Per the current California Department of Public Health regulations, ALL VISITORS, including, exhibitors, purchasers of tickets, attendees, management staff, vendors, press, and their guests, AGREE TO:

  • Provide proof of vaccination or proof of negative COVID-19 test within 2 days of attending fair. Free Community Testing Sites. Attendees cannot self-attest to verify vaccination status or a negative test result (documentation required). People are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19: two weeks or more after they have received the second dose in a 2-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), two weeks or more after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and Johnson [J&J]/Janssen), or two weeks after receipt of another vaccine, such as AstraZeneca).
  • Provide valid photo identification. Acceptable identification is a valid document that includes the name of the person and photograph.
  • Unvaccinated children under the age of 2 may attend accompanied by a vaccinated adult.
  • Alameda County requires everyone 2 years of age and older must continue to wear a mask, regardless of their vaccination status, in all indoor public settings. Please respect social distancing.
  • Masks must be worn while indoors, and respect social distancing.
  • Agree to California International Antiquarian Book Fair’s Attendance Waiver.
  • Follow all instructions provided by the Fair’s on-site staff.
  • Check the Fair website ( prior to arrival for the most up-to-date information and guidance.
  • For the added safety of attendees, we suggest using the state of California’s contract tracing app CA Notify: CA Notify is a free service that allows you to find out if you were exposed to COVID-19. You can also notify others if you test positive while remaining anonymous. If you test positive for COVID-19 after attending the fair please follow state and CDC recommendations on isolating and care. Please understand we are unable to provide personal information on anyone who might be infected.

California International Antiquarian Book Fair Attendance Policy

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious, and people can be infected and show no symptoms and therefore spread the disease. It is known that COVID-19 can cause serious and potentially life-threatening illness, permanent disability, and even death.

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any place where people gather. By attending the California International Antiquarian Book Fair you and your guests and/or staff assume all risks, hazards, and dangers arising from or relating in any way to the risk of you and/or your child(ren), and/or guests contracting a communicable disease or illness—including, without limitation, exposure to COVID-19 or any other bacteria, virus, or other pathogen capable of causing a communicable disease or illness, whether that exposure occurs before, during, or after the event, and regardless of how caused or contracted—and you, your heirs, assignees, next of kin, and/or legally appointed or designated representatives hereby waive any and all claims and potential claims against the Doucet Productions and The Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, Inc.—relating to such risks, hazards, and dangers.

The laws of the State of California and Alameda County apply to this policy.
